Church packing meals for people in need

Posted

With 1 out of 9 people experiencing hunger around the world, one local church is making meals to make a difference.

Christ Fellowship, a multi-site church in South Florida, will be hosting its annual Make a Meal meal packing event on Saturday, September 24. The church expects to have over 4,000 volunteers across 14 of its campus locations to pack over 600,000 meals for people in need.

In partnership with Convoy of Hope, a faith-based nonprofit organization that feeds 465,000 kids across 26 different countries on a daily basis, these meals will be distributed as part of its hunger relief efforts in the country of Honduras. As one of the poorest and most dangerous countries in Latin America, approximately half of its population is living below the poverty line.

What we’re seeing in Honduras represents not only a lack of basic needs but translates to compromised immune systems, educational delays—and in some cases—even death due to malnutrition. While the reality of the situation is heavy, we have an opportunity to help one less person from going hungry. I love that Make a Meal is something simple we can do to take a few hours out of our weekend, knowing that the impact could be lifelong for someone in need,” said Becky Kyle, director of Christ Fellowship Missions.

Christ Fellowship has churches in Okeechobee, Belle Glade, Port St. Lucie, Sutar, Palm Beach Gardens and West Palm Beach.
