City encourages businesses to beautify Okeechobee

The City of Okeechobee invites local businesses to be part of a City Beautification Program.

In a letter sent to businesses within the city limits, City Administrator Marcos Montes De Oca explained the city has begun improving landscaping around the downtown areas including City Hall, Chamber of Commerce Building, the Police Department, and the parks.

“We would like to share our enthusiasm with you, our local businesses. Our goal is to make our community more eye appealing by improving and/or installing additional landscaping. The city would like to spur this landscaping revival by the implementation of a couple of incentives,” Montes De Oca explained

“The city will review your landscaping and irrigation plans at NO COST and will be WAIVING the commercial irrigation building permit plan review and associated fees. We feel the economic impact of making Okeechobee a more vibrant place will be recovered several times over,” he stated. “We invite you to take part in our City’s landscaping and beautification improvement project and to make your business stand out, more eye appealing, and attractive to customers. Project involvement is voluntary; however, we greatly appreciate all of those businesses that will take advantage of this program.”

The program and suspension of the building department fees will continue until August 31, 2021.
