OKEECHOBEE -- Local law enforcement held their annual Coffee with a Cop event Wednesday morning. On Oct. 6, before it was fully light outside, Police Chief Donald Hagan, Sheriff Noel Stephen, Councilman Bob Jarriel, Mayor Dowling Watford, Major Michael Hazellief and several deputies gathered to spend some informal, quality time with the people of Okeechobee.
Chief Hagan said he made a point to be there early after Councilman Jarriel asked him if he could really get up that early. "I'm always up early," he said. When Councilman Jarriel arrived, he said he got to thinking about it and thought maybe the reason he never saw the chief out and about that early was because he was never out early himself.
As always, Serenity Coffee Shop was a warm and welcoming setting for the get together. Curtis and Jennie Tyson enjoy not just selling coffee but actually getting to know their customers and making them feel like family.
Laughter echoed throughout the little cafe as people came in, spent a few minutes socializing and then went out to begin their days.
If you missed it this year, plan on attending next year. You won't be disappointed.
