COVID-19 vaccinations in Okeechobee on Friday by appointment only

OKEECHOBEE  -- COVID-19 vaccine distribution for first doses of the vaccine in Okeechobee County will be on Friday, Feb. 12 at the Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center --  by appointment only.

The Florida Department of Health in Okeechobee County will be offering Moderna COVID-19 vaccines at the Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center, 4601 State Road  710 East, for eligible recipients according to state guidelines (individuals 65 years of age or older or direct health care workers).

The Department of Health in Okeechobee anticipates 450 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine will be available for this distribution based on APPOINTMENTS ONLY for those registered through the new Florida Registration System.

• APPOINTMENTS WILL BE REQUIRED. To pre-register go to myvaccine.fl.gov or call 866-201-1060 for Okeechobee County. Your name will be put on the waitlist and you will be contacted when an appointment becomes available. The state started accepting names by county last week after the new state system was announced by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

• This will be a DRIVE THROUGH event where participants will remain in their vehicles at all times.

• Please enter through the gates on State Road 710 no more than 30 minutes prior to your appointment time.

• Proof of Florida residency is required. This can be proven with a Florida driver's license or state-issued ID card. If you do not have a Florida driver's license, you can prove Florida residency with documents such as mortage or lease agreements, utility bills and bank statements sent to a street address. Documents sent to PO Boxes do not qualify. Go to http://okeechobee.floridahealth.gov/programs-and-services/covid.html for residency documentation requirements.

This distribution is for first dose vaccinations only. Anyone needing a second dose of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine will receive a call to schedule an appointment for their second dose if they received their first dose from the Florida Department of Health in Okeechobee County. This call will be made when the second dose is provided to the Florida Department of Health in Okeechobee County.

Okeechobee County continues to work closely with Department of Health officials to offer any support and resources necessary to ensure the community needs can be met.

Consent forms for the COVID-19 vaccine may be picked up at the Okeechobee County Public Library, or downloaded online from the Florida Department of Health in Okeechobee County website.
