Disturbance at Pizza Hut precedes DUI arrest

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — After he reportedly caused a disturbance at Pizza Hut, a local man was arrested and charged with DUI. David Ostrum, 45, was arrested April 8 at approximately 3:30 p.m. by Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Cauley. Cauley was dispatched to the restaurant after Deputy Bryan Cross requested help locating Ostrum.

Ostrum was reportedly intoxicated and had left the restaurant driving a white Chevrolet pickup without a tailgate. Deputy Matthew Huffman noticed the vehicle they were searching for heading east on U.S. 441 Southeast and then turn north onto Southeast 35th Avenue. Huffman performed a traffic stop just as Ostrum pulled into his own driveway.

Cauley’s report notes he noticed a strong odor of alcohol immediately when he approached Ostrum and Ostrum’s speech was slow and slurred.

After a sobriety test, Ostrum was charged with DUI and reportedly refused a breath test. His bond was set at $500.
