LEON COUNY – On Dec. 4, the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) unveiled the county photos featured in their 2021 FAC Calendar: Show Us Your Spectacular. Okeechobee County has been chosen as December 2020.
“With people all over the world coming to experience our rich geographical and cultural history, the 2021 FAC Calendar highlights some of the most spectacular things to see and do while spending time in this great state,” said FAC President and Palm Beach County Commissioner, Melissa McKinlay.
Association members selected the theme earlier in the year as an opportunity for counties to showcase the most unique sights in their local communities, whether that was beaches, art, architecture, or more. Following the selection of a theme, a photo contest was held among the entries in order to determine the calendar results. The contest called for professional, amateur, and cellphone photographers to submit their best photos emphasizing the diverse, eye-catching attractions across Florida.
“Okeechobee couldn’t be more excited to have been selected to be represented in the 2021 FAC Calendar. The picture that was chosen for December titled ‘Fishermen enjoying Lake Okeechobee’ by Pat Tyner is an amazing representation of just one of the things that makes our community spectacular! Okeechobee’s natural beauty makes this small rural community a spectacular place for nature photographers from all over the world. Thank you to those that awarded our community with this great honor, we look forward to participating next year,” said Okeechobee County Tourism Coordinator Sharie Turgeon.
The photo representing Glades County was taken by Dale Conyers, who is a member of the staff of the Caloosa Belle newspaper. "We've always known Dale is a terrific photographer," said Publisher Katrina Elsken. "We're thrilled to see his work recognized on the state level."
With nearly 400 submissions, 15 entries were carefully curated for the 2021 FAC Calendar. They include:
• Cover: Palm Beach County;
• December 2020: Okeechobee County;
