Father and son have successful first hunting trip

Posted

OKEECHOBEE -- Doug Nickalson and his 8-year-old son Grant have been anticipating their first hunting trip all year. A friend made the arrangements for them to go hunting in Highlands County, and father and son each killed a deer.

Nickalson and his wife Rachel have nine children. Grant is the sixth child and second son. All of the Nickalson children love to go fishing, but Grant was the first to express an interest in hunting, explained his mom. The family is taking a trip home to North Carolina to see family over the Thanksgiving holiday and a relative will be taking Nickalson and several of the children hunting while they are there. The oldest son, Cameron, wants to kill a hog.

"Grant was so excited and had a great time," said his dad.
