OKEECHOBEE — Donations of blood has dropped more than 20% since COVID began. Shortages are frequent at many hospitals. So far Raulerson Hospital has been able to get blood, thanks especially to the giving people in Okeechobee who are more diligent at trying to maintain supplies of blood.
When tragedy strikes, a safe and secure blood supply can make the difference between life and death. When there is an accident or natural disaster, there isn’t time to collect, test and process blood. Blood testing and processing takes about 24 hours. That’s why it’s so important for those who are able to donate to give blood regularly so it can be at the hospitals and ready to use when needed. The safety of the nation’s blood supply depends on the generosity of volunteer blood donors. If you are at least 17 years old and in good health, you can help save lives by donating blood.
The Red Bus will be parked at the following locations on the dates provided below:
• Saturday, Feb. 6. Walmart, 2101 S. Parrott Ave., whole blood 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and platelet bus from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Sunday, Feb. 7, Walmart, 2101 S. Parrott Ave., 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Monday, Feb. 8, Walmart, 2101 S. Parrott Ave., noon to 5 p.m.
• Tuesday. Feb. 9, Okeechobee Christian Academy, 701 S. Parrott Ave., 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
