Football around the lake this week

Posted

  • Clewiston Tigers (1-0)

The Clewiston Tigers opened their promising season with a dominating 42-6 win on the road over Frostproof. Things were looking good for a big home opener on Cane Field against Bartow on Sept. 3, but the team had to cancel the game and go into quarantine due to a potential COVID-19 exposure. Barring any other exposures or positives the Tigers are set to resume practice on Sept. 7, which would be three days before they’re scheduled to travel to LaBelle to face the Cowboys in the Hendry County Bowl.

  • Okeechobee Brahmans (0-1)

The Okeechobee Brahmans fell 24-7 to Desoto County on Aug. 27. There were some highlights for Okeechobee: Senior Braelon Pelt brought back an interception for a touchdown for the Brahmans in the first half. Turnovers on offense killed any momentum the Brahmans could get going in the second half. They’ll look to tighten up when they host the 0-1 Fort Pierce Central Cobras at 7 p.m. on Sept. 3

  • Glades Central Raiders (1-0)

The Glades Central Raiders came back to defeat Palm Beach Lakes 14-7 in their season opener on Aug. 27. Palm Beach Lakes took a 7-0 lead into halftime. But the hard-hitting Raider running game wore down their opponent in the second half. Next the Raiders return to the Muck to host 1-0 Palm Beach Gardens on Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

  • Glades Day Gators (1-0)

The Glades Day Gators won their season opener at home 41-7 over Westminster Academy. They’ll be on the road this week to take on an 0-1 Saint Andrew’s  squad at 7 p.m. on Sept. 3.

  • Pahokee Blue Devils (1-0)

The Pahokee Blue Devils’ defense dominated in their week one match-up against Wellington. Pahokee came away with the 28-21 win. Their defense will have to carry the team in the early going this season until the offense can gel. They travel to take on the 0-1 Moore Haven Terriers on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.

  • Moore Haven Terriers (0-1)

The Moore Haven Terriers were able to schedule a game against Santa Fe Catholic last week after originally having the date open. The Terriers fell 46-6 as they attempt to rebuild this season. Next they host the Pahokee Blue Devils on Sep.t 3 at 7 p.m.
