OKEECHOBEE — One month after she was charged with grand theft auto the first time, 14-year-old Jenna May Switalski was charged with stealing another vehicle. On Feb. 5 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Cauley was dispatched in reference to an auto theft.

While en route, he was advised Jenna’s mother reported the girl took her step-father’s truck without permission and was probably headed toward Treasure Island or King’s Bay. Cauley spotted the truck near the 900 block of U.S. 98 North and conducted a traffic stop.

When Jenna’s parents arrived, they said they wanted to press charges. The arrest report notes Jenna refused to speak with Cauley and was transported to the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office without incident.

Jenna was arrested Dec. 28 and charged with grand theft auto and criminal mischief. In that case, the arrest report said she became irate when her mother told her she could not have her cell phone to contact friends. She went outside to her father’s truck, took a knife and began cutting the cloth seats. She also broke the dashboard. In addition, she took chalk and wrote an obscene word on the truck. When the truck alarm went off, the girl took off on foot.

Later, Jenna’s sister called to report Jenna had arrived at the sister’s home driving a stolen truck. OCSO Deputy Karson Reno and Deputy Brian Cross went to the sister’s home and located the girl and a truck with a flatbed trailer attached. The deputies contacted the owner of the truck who advised he had not given anyone permission to drive it. The owner had left the truck unlocked with the keys inside the truck.

She was turned over to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
