OKEECHOBEE — On Dec. 15, Okeechobee County government had the honor of joining in and celebrating with Florida Power & Light a groundbreaking event and a “first look” at the FPL Cavendish Solar Energy Center, which will power the NextGen Hydrogen Hub – Florida’s first hydrogen plant. The solar energy center is currently under construction and is located at the Okeechobee Clean Energy Plant. It will use solar energy to separate hydrogen from water and use that so-called “green hydrogen” to generate power.

Florida Power & Light Company continues to focus on providing clean, reliable, and affordable power to its customers and are excited about the future of clean energy, and the construction of this site marks the start of a new era in Florida’s history.

Okeechobee County attendees were: Commissioners Terry Burroughs, Kelly Owens, and Frank DeCarlo, along with County Administrator Deborah Manzo, Deputy Administrator Rich Reade, and Community Services Director Denise Whitehead.
