OKEECHOBEE - After her arrest on multiple outstanding warrants, a local woman was accused of smuggling contraband into the jail. Tricia Maxey, 47 was arrested April 8 at approximately 1 a.m. after a call about a trespasser on Northwest Eighth Avenue. Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Marc Williams was dispatched in response to the complaint shortly after midnight.
When Williams arrived, he arrested Maxey on the outstanding warrants, but because she is a female, he did not conduct a search of her person. He did, however, ask her multiple times if she had any type of contraband and she denied having any. According to his report, after he pulled into the jail compound, she got out of the patrol car and a glass pipe fell out of her bra. The pipe was tested and found to contain methamphetamine.
Maxey was charged with introducing contraband into a detention facility, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $11,000.
Maxey was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest in September 2020 and is awaiting trial.
In February 2021, she was charged with trespass and reisiting arrest as well.
