HCA Raulerson Hospital physician completes 500 robotic-assisted surgeries

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — Dr. Carlos Alejo, general surgeon at HCA Florida Raulerson Hospital, recently completed his 500th robotic-assisted surgery. The surgical robot’s state-of-the-art technology allows physicians to perform minimally-invasive surgery for many complex diseases and conditions.

“Our purpose is to take care of this community,” said Brian Melear, Chief Executive Officer of HCA Florida Raulerson Hospital, “Dr. Alejo achieves that through the partnerships he creates, the people he teaches and people that support him. We are fortunate to have a physician partner that recognizes the importance offering cutting-edge technology to this community.”

HCA Florida Raulerson Hospital offers the most advanced technology used in minimally invasive robotic surgery which allows surgeons to perform procedures without large incisions. Instruments on the arms of a robotic console are inserted into small incisions at surgical sites like the abdomen or pelvis. During these procedures, the surgeon is in the same room with the patient and is completely in control of the robot. The surgeon manipulates the instruments in real-time through small incisions, decreasing recovery time and minimizing postoperative scarring.
