OKEECHOBEE -- On the afternoon of March 3, units from Okeechobee County Fire Rescue, the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office, Okeechobee Animal Control, and a local veterinarian worked together at the scene of a traffic accident with numerous injuries that also required the extrication of a horse from an overturned trailer on State Road 710.
The husband of one of those involved in the accident reached out on social media to thank emergency officials.
"Thank you Okeechobee County Fire Rescue, for taking such good care of my wife and her friends in this horrific accident. I heard from multiple sources that your crew and the EMT's were outstanding in every way. Thanks to all the people who stopped to help, it was greatly appreciated," shared Bruce Lachiusa.
The horses and people involved in the accident were "banged up, but OK," according to Elizabeth Still, who identified herself as a friend of those involved.
"It is a miracle they all survived. Very good coordinated and professional rescue.," Still posted.
