IRSC announces new leadership appointments

Posted

FORT PIERCE — Indian River State College has made key leadership appointments to advance the areas of technology, finance, student success, and academic and workforce development.

Joining the College on April 5 are Timothy Marshall, who will serve as IRSC’s Vice President of Institutional Technology/Chief Information Officer, and Marvin Pyles, who will serve as IRSC’s next Vice President of Financial Services/Chief Financial Officer.

Marshall comes to IRSC from Dallas College in Texas—one of the nation’s top 20 largest college/university systems—where he has served as Chief Innovation Officer since 2016. Overall, his experiences cover the gamut of executive leadership and organizational support at global enterprises, multiple public and private colleges and universities, and at a large K-12 district. He earned a Master of Science Degree in Management Information Systems and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Baltimore and is Doctoral Candidate (Ed.D.) in Organizational Leadership at the American College of Education. At IRSC, he will be responsible for aligning technology methods, tools and people to enable the successful execution of the College mission.

As V.P. of Financial Services/Chief Financial Officer, Dr. Pyles will hold responsibility for budget and financial services for the entire institution, including physical plant and facilities management and sustainability, capital budget and planning. Additionally, Pyles will establish and maintain beneficial relationships with various agencies, private enterprises, governmental bodies, public officers and others whose support is vital to the achievement of the College mission. He comes to IRSC with executive, administrative, financial and human resource leadership in academia and the private sector. Pyles most recently served as Vice President of Administration and Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Salisbury University in Maryland. He earned a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, and both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Additionally, in late February, Elizabeth “Beth” Gaskin was named Vice President for Student Success, and academic and workforce programs were unified under the direction of Heather Belmont, Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer.

Gaskin has served IRSC for more than eight years as President of the College’s Chastain Campus in Martin County. In her new role, she will provide leadership and vision for all “front door” student services, recruitment and enrollment strategy, advising, financial aid, dual enrollment programs, transfer and career assistance, and much more. A national search is underway for her successor in Martin County. She will continue as Interim Chastain Campus President until her replacement is named.

Dr. Belmont joined IRSC in 2018 as Vice President of Academic Affairs after serving some 13 years at Miami Dade College (MDC) in numerous leadership capacities as both a faculty member and administrator. At IRSC, Belmont has been instrumental in securing and administering millions in external grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education, National Science Foundation and U.S. Department of Agriculture. She has worked tirelessly to establish programs to close the equity gap for underrepresented populations in STEM.

Over the last several months, IRSC President Dr. Timothy Moore has made several changes to his internal Cabinet, including hiring Apple veteran Michael Hageloh as Executive Vice President of Strategic Initiatives.

“We’re in a hyper-competitive industry, and I know that we can do better in making IRSC every student’s first choice,” states Dr. Timothy Moore, IRSC President. “The team of experienced, innovative leaders that I am assembling have the skills and capabilities to move this College forward while retaining all of the qualities that make Indian River State College special. We’re going to move with velocity and purpose.”
