IRSC names Dr. Raimundo Socorro as Dean of Public Service Education

FORT PIERCE — Indian River State College (IRSC) has hired Dr. Raimundo Socorro as Dean of Public Service Education. A former commander with the Miami Police Department and former Dean of the School of Justice, Public Safety and Law Studies at Miami Dade College, Socorro comes to IRSC with an unparalleled mix of practical and academic experiences. At IRSC, he is responsible for Bachelor- and Associate-level programs in criminal justice, emergency administration and management, fire science, public administration, social and human services; certificate programs; law enforcement and fire academies; and testing and training in various areas of public safety, including fire, police, corrections and private security. He will also grow IRSC’s portfolio of advanced and specialized training for veteran officers and agency personnel.

He will propel IRSC public service education academic programs and our law enforcement and fire science academies forward while furthering our commitment to helping local and regional first responder agencies serve our communities better.”

Socorro has a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership & Education from Barry University; a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Graduate Certificate in Police Executive Leadership from the University of Louisville; a Master of Science in Management, Graduate Certificate in Public Management, and Bachelor in Arts in Organizational Management from St. Thomas University; and Associate in Arts Degree from Miami Dade Community College. He retired from the Miami Police Department in 2013 and Miami Dade College in 2020.
