IRSC Performing Arts Program presents “Triumph of Love” on the green at Massey Campus Feb. 18, 19 & 20

FORT PIERCE — The resilience, talent and creative passion of Indian River State College (IRSC) Performing Arts program students will be on display in the joyous musical “Triumph of Love” Feb. 18, 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. The unique production will take place outdoors, with both audience and actors socially distanced, under McAlpin Gazebo on the green at the Massey Campus in Fort Pierce.

Based on Marivaux’s delightful 1732 comedy of the same name, “Triumph of Love” is a charming, chamber musical that pits the heart against the mind in the age-old conflict of emotion vs reason. In order to win the heart of her true love and restore the rightful heir to the throne, a resourceful princess takes on multiple disguises to stay one step ahead of her sworn enemies. As her clever ruses grow more complicated, the mistaken identities increase, as does the frenzied frivolity, until the climax of this zany, madcap comedy finally proves that love indeed triumphs over all.

“Though the pandemic brought many challenges to the world of the performing arts, one positive aspect is that it has forced us to think outside the box in terms of how to present live theatre,” shares Alex Kanter, IRSC master instructor of theatre. “In a traditional season, our students would not delve into such a small-cast, tight-knit ensemble musical, but we are excited to provide them this opportunity to learn the extremely challenging style of performing completely ‘in the round,’ and I’m confident that our patrons will be delighted in their performance.”

“Triumph of Love” is the college’s performing arts program first show of 2021. Patrons are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating.

Tickets for “Triumph of Love” are available for purchase at the IRSC Box Office located in the McAlpin Fine Arts Center on the Massey Campus at 3209 Virginia Avenue in Fort Pierce.
