Posted

FORT PIERCE — Recent Indian River State College (IRSC) Interior Design program graduate, Karla Ambrose, placed first in the 2020 ASID Florida South Design Excellence Awards category for Student Commercial Design. The annual design competition is dedicated to the advancement of the interior design profession through the recognition of outstanding designers.

“The best part of teaching is planting seeds of creativity, knowledge and skills in your students and then watching them succeed, just like Karla,” stated Dr. Ann Roccon, Associate Professor of Interior Design Technology at Indian River State College. “She was my student assistant in 2019 and my right hand — I am so proud of her and this accomplishment!”

There is a rising demand for interior designers for projects in private homes, offices, restaurants and other retail establishments. The Interior Design program at IRSC prepares students to enter the field, teaching best practices of design, how to communicate with clients and design software, like AutoCAD. After graduating and gaining the necessary work experience, students are qualified to take the National Interior Design Examination (NCIDQ).
