Lady Brahman volleyball off to fast start

OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman varsity volleyball team rallied to take down the Sebring Lady Blue Streaks 3-2 in their first home volleyball game of the 2021 season.

OHS took the first set in dominating fashion 25-14. But Sebring responded with a big victory of their own in the second set, winning 25-11

Both teams opened the third set strong and it quickly turned into a back and forth match. Sebring was able to pull out to a 15-8 lead late in the set before OHS sophomore Sydney Matthews ended the rally with a commanding kill.

Eventually the Lady Brahmans managed to put together a run of their own and tie it up 20-20. But despite this effort the Lady Blue Streaks eked out a 25-22 win to take the third set.

Down two sets to one, Okeechobee needed to win the next one to force a fifth and final set.

The fourth set played out in the early minutes very similar to how the third set went. These two teams appeared to line up against each other well. The set went back and forth, with Okeechobee taking a 22-19 lead at one point. A small Sebring rally made it 22-21 before OHS senior Joy Whipple scored an aggressive kill that wiped out any momentum Sebring had.

Okeechobee went on to win the fourth set 25-23.

The Lady Brahmans could feel the energy in the game swinging their way by the fifth set. Great serves by OHS senior Anja Koivunen along with a good mixture of dominating spikes and soft touch kills from Matthews let Okeechobee take the fifth and final set 15-12.

Okeechobee is now 3-0 following wins over Port St. Lucie and Sebastian River in August. The Lady Brahmans are home again hosting Centennial on Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
