Lady Brahmans slay Lady Dragons

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman varsity soccer team conquered the Lake Placid Lady Dragons 5-1 on Jan. 11, in their first home game of the season.

Okeechobee controlled the flow of the game against Lake Placid. The Lady Dragons struggled to keep up with the Lady Brahmans’ speed for most of the game. In particular, the first half of the game was a dominating showing for the Lady Brahmans.

Makenna Smith scored the first goal for Okeechobee in the early minutes of the first half. Isabella Saucedo netted the second and third with an assist from Smith. In only a matter of minutes the Lady Brahmans were up 3-0 on Lake Placid.

Isabella would add two more goals before the night was over.

To Lake Placid’s credit they did come out more aggressive in the second half. But still Okeechobee’s defense managed to keep them off of the scoreboard until the final minute of the game.

The win was a nice bounce back for an Okeechobee team that hadn’t seen the field for a significant chuck of time due to a COVID-19 exposure followed directly after by the holiday break.

“We were in quarantine which forced us to miss a couple games,” said head coach Maria Cisneros. We obviously couldn’t practice. And then the holidays happened which put us on a long break. This is their first home game so the girls are very happy. Right now they’re feeling optimistic. The girls have worked really hard. The long break felt a little bit like having to re-start all over again. But the whole team gets along so well and they all work hard.”

The Lady Brahmans will be on the road to take on Martin County on Jan. 14. After that they’ll be back home for another home game, this time hosting the Glades Day Lady Gators on Jan. 19.
