Lakefront Estates has 800 families interested in moving to Florida

OKEECHOBEE – The Lakefront Estates project in Glades County is “moving forward as quickly as we can,” according to project engineer Steve Dobbs.

Lakeside Estates and Villas will include up to 1,300 homes as well as schools, restaurants, stores and public buildings, he explained.

The developers are observant Jews, Dobbs said. They purchased the property from Glenn Harvey who previously planned a 470-home development in the same area off SR 78 near Buckhead Ridge. Developers have stated they will start construction when they have commitments from 150 families.

“Last I heard they had 800 families interested,” said Dobbs.

He said they turned in the required package of information to South Florida Water Management District on Feb. 27. They are working with Florida Department of Transporation on adding a turn lane. They are also working with Okeechobee Utility Authority for water and sewer service.
