Letter to the Editor: ‘Activists’ oppose solution to fix lake discharges

Posted

I would like to comment on your article “Activists oppose solution to fix lake discharges.” I have met and talked to many of the scientists working on the lake issues. This article is “spot on.” You will never fix the real problem of contamination to the lake if you don’t go upstream. If you really care about the lake, you will focus on making sure the contamination never reaches the lake to start with. Common sense and basic knowledge of this hydrology will tell you 90-95% of these issues are from north of the lake in a typical year. The exception is when the lake is to low, like this last year, and water flowed from the St. Lucie watershed back into the lake. I have lived and fished in and around the lake for 50-plus years. Stop the political fighting and FIX the real problem!
