Local accused of solicitation of a minor

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division announces the arrest of Brian Peterson, 31, on probable cause for several charges involving solicitation of a minor child over the internet.

On Monday, August 22, 2022, the minor and mother contacted the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office stating that an unknown adult male was attempting to speak with the minor through social media.

Investigators (with the permission of the mother) began using the minor's social media account and continued conversation.

Believing he was still speaking with the minor, the man provided a location where the two could meet. Instead of the minor, he met investigators who, after a brief struggle, arrested Peterson on several charges.

Brian Peterson's charges are as follows;

Charge 1- Use of computer services or devices is prohibited; by any person who knowingly uses an online computer service to solicit a child.

Charge 2 - Electronically transmitting harmful material to a person known or believed to be a minor.

Charge 3 - Resisting officer without violence.

Brian Peterson's alleged actions in this case may not be an isolated incident. If you believe someone has victimized your child, don't hesitate to contact Detective Cauley at (863) 763-3117 Ext. 5102, or at mcauley@okeesheriff.com.
