Local man attacked with cane

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — While visiting his grandfather, a local man was reportedly attacked by his father. Tony Harlow Jr., 40,  was arrested March 24 by Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Karson Reno after he allegedly hit his son in the neck with a cane.

Reno was dispatched to the home at approximately 12:30 a.m. According to his report, he spoke to the complainant but was told he was good and the deputy could leave. However, half an hour later, dispatch received a second call from the complainant, who said he was now at his aunt’s house and would like to make a report. The complainant told Reno he had gone to his grandfather’s house to discuss an issue but when he walked into his grandfather’s shop, his father hit him in the neck with a cane. After a brief scuffle, the complainant was able to get away and left.

When Reno returned to the grandfather’s home, he found Harlow and placed him in wrist restraints. Harlow reportedly began screaming and yelling for EMS and said he wanted to go to the hospital. Due to a foot injury, Harlow uses a walker. Deputies began wheeling him, seated on his walker, toward the patrol car and Harlow allegedly threw himself off the walker and onto the ground. Harlow rolled around on the ground calling for EMS. He was transported to Raulerson Hospital for medical treatment.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Harlow was released from the hospital, arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $5,000.
