Man accused of assaulting deputies

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — After reportedly assaulting his girlfriend and two deputies, a local man faces multiple charges.

Jared Gahley, 42, was charged with one count battery, two counts battery on law enforcement officers and one count resisting arrest with violence on March 28 at approximately 5 a.m. Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputies Brady Rogers and Stephen Paladino were dispatched to the area of Stampede on Northeast Fourth Trail. Dispatch notified them a man was hitting a woman inside a vehicle.

According to Rogers’ report, the altercation was still in progress when he arrived. The deputies saw Gahley shove a woman out of the driver’s seat and into the passenger seat and then hit her several times with a closed fist. The deputies tried to remove Gahley from the vehicle, but he refused to get out and fought off their attempts to remove him, hitting and kicking the men.  Paladino used his taser, and they were eventually able to get him out of the vehicle. They got him on the ground, attempted to restrain his hands and more units were requested to the scene to help control the man. When the other units arrived, Gahley was finally placed in Paladino’s patrol car, and the deputies attempted to speak to the woman.

As they took her statement, Gahley reportedly banged his head on the window of the patrol car repeatedly. Despite requests to stop the banging, Gahley continued and was pepper sprayed by one of the deputies. EMS responded to the scene and cleared Gahley medically.

The woman reportedly told deputies she tried to get Gahley out of the bar and into the car so she could drive him home, but he got angry and did not want her to drive.

Gahley was transported to the county jail, and his bond was set at $20,000.
