Man accused of assaulting host with knife

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — After he was invited to hang out at a friend’s home, 46-year-old Carlos Alberto Ramirez allegedly came after his host with a knife and threatened to stab him.

On Nov. 5 at approximately 2 a.m., Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Cauley responded to a call regarding an aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony. While en route, he was advised a woman had called 911 to say her husband had called her and told her someone was chasing him with a knife.
When Cauley arrived at the home, he spoke with the husband, who told him he had been standing outside his home when Ramirez approached him with a kitchen knife. Because he was not sure what Ramirez’ intentions were, he began to walk away. As he was walking away, Ramirez followed him, so he began to run, and Ramirez continued to follow. The man ran all the way to the barn and then Ramirez reportedly got into a car and sat there until law enforcement arrived.

A second man told Cauley he had invited Ramirez home with him to hang out and for an unknown reason, Ramirez went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, pointed it at him and said he was going to stab him.

Cauley attempted to speak to Ramirez, but he would not speak to him, and he reportedly appeared to be intoxicated on either alcohol or narcotics. He was transported to Raulerson Hospital to be evaluated.

There was a language barrier between Cauley and all parties present, but Aurrelino Contorio was able to translate.

Ramirez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with intent to commit a felony. Bond was set at $5,000.
