Man receives sentence of probation after following a woman home

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — Gregory Thomas was sentenced to 432 days probation after pleading no contest to the charges of carrying a concealed firearm and delivering/possessing/sale of an altered firearm. A third charge, loitering or prowling was dropped. Thomas was arrested in May of 2019 after he was reported for standing outside someone’s window at 5 a.m.

Deputy Shane Bogner responded to the home in reference to a suspicious vehicle. When he arrived, he found Gregory Thomas standing approximately two feet from the front window of the complainant’s car which was parked in front of her house. The woman inside the vehicle said she was driving home when she noticed a silver BMW that seemed to be following her. The car followed her all the way home, and after she pulled into her driveway, the car came slowly down the street almost stopping just past her house. She was scared and turned off her lights, remaining in her car. The BMW went to the end of her street and turned around to come back, stopping right behind her illuminating the inside of her vehicle with its headlights. The vehicle stayed there for a few minutes before backing down the street and stopping in another driveway. As she watched, there was a flash of light in the vehicle, and the next thing she saw was the glowing end of a cigarette coming towards her down the street. Thomas approached her car, looked in her window and then continued down the street a short way before turning around and heading back toward her with his hand in his pocket. It was at this point that Deputy Bogner arrived.

When asked if he had any weapons on him, Thomas told the deputy he had a gun, but had just found it in the ditch.

Thomas had no prior felony convictions, and adjudication was withheld in this case.
