OKEECHOBEE — Almost three years after his arrest, Jason D. Osceola was sentenced to one year and eight months in state prison.

Osceola was arrested in May of 2018 and charged with possession of marijuana and introducing contraband into a detention facility. At the time, he was an inmate at Okeechobee Correctional Institute.

A member of the Okeechobee Narcotics Task Force was dispatched to the prison in reference to marijuana being found inside the facility. When he arrived, he spoke with Captain Brian White, an officer at the prison. White told him he had been conducting a search for illegal contraband and narcotics when his K9 partner, Molly, alerted to a white tennis shoe under a bed. When White searched the shoe, he discovered 58 grams of marijuana inside. The shoe belonged to Osceola, and he admitted the marijuana belonged to him.

In June of 2018, the charge of possession was dropped.

On Feb. 11, 2021, he changed his plea from not guilty to no contest and was adjudicated guilty. His time serve is noted to be one year, two months and 19 days
