Treatment is free.

Regeneron was approved by the Food and D rug Administration (FDA) on an  emergency use authorization. According to the CDC, Regeneron's treatment, called REGEN-COV, is a combination of two types of monoclonal antibodies. Monoclonal antibodies work by targeting the coronavirus spike protein, blocking the virus from entering your body's cells, and stopping the infection from spreading.

The CDC and FDA advise Regeneron is NOT a substitute for vaccination against COVID-19. "FDA has authorized three vaccines to prevent COVID-19 and serious clinical outcomes caused by COVID-19, including hospitalization and death. FDA urges you to get vaccinated, if you are eligible," the FDA website states.

The CDC also advises those who are COVID-19 positive to consult their primary care physicians to discuss any other health issues and medications before getting Regeneron.

Regeneron is given via an IV infusion (that takes 20-50 minutes) or with four shots (one in each upper arm and two in the abdomen). The physician determines which method to use.

Those who receive the treatment are also required to remain at the facility for an observation period of about 60 minutes.
