BUCKHEAD RIDGE — A full-year’s absence didn’t affect attendance at the Buckhead Ridge Community Association Tuesday, March 22. The tight-knit community welcomed an update on what they missed. Association Secretary Vickie Anderson, President Norm Wagner, and Treasurer Maria Burrows introduced the new Mosquito Control Board -- President Stu Taylor, Secretary Becky delSanto, Treasurer Jim Gillette, and Director Charlie Norris -- to the 60 residents at the covered dish dinner.

Stu Taylor reported the Mosquito Control Board has opened up many canals in BHR which had been inoperable for months. They are working at getting all the canals cleaned and are also setting up a working contact number to reach them during mosquito season. He urged residents to keep brush cleaned out and grass trimmed to help cut down the number of mosquitos.

Glades County Sheriff Lt. Johnson reported on the 13 police calls followed up this past month and warned residents to remember to keep their vehicles and sheds locked to help discourage attempted break-ins.

New residents to BHR were welcomed to the community. They are Jerry and Karen Murray, J.J. and Heather James, Roy Stevens, David Aycock, Donald Morris, Charles Kanaka and Jerry Weaver.

Glades County Commissioner Tim Stanley reported BHR will, hopefully, get sidewalks along State Road 78 by July 2022. He discussed the proposed Fire Tax which could amount to a low $60 per year and said volunteers are needed to support the department. He reported COVID shots are quick and easy in Moore Haven. He reported sewer lines have been approved to OkeeTantie, that there is now a new Lookout Tower at Harney Pond, that there is work going on at the Guy Harvey development south of BHR and other current news.

If you are interested in attending these informative meetings, contact Vickie Anderson at 863-634-4106. Cost of membership in the Community Association is only $15 per year per person.
