OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman varsity softball team battled until the seventh inning, but ultimately fell to the Bayside Lady Bears in the regional quarterfinals 2-1 on May 7.

The game was originally scheduled for May 6, but had to be pushed back one day due to inclement weather.

Bayside took a 1-0 lead early, and the scored stayed that way for much of the game. Lady Bear batters hit the ball well, but the Okeechobee defense did well to limit any damage and keep the game close.

Okeechobee also hit the ball well, but most of their hitting came after Bayside had already scored two outs. This lead to multiple base runners being left stranded in the middle innings of the game While most if the Lady Brahman’s hits came with only one out remaining, the Lady Bears were able to get on base early and give themselves a chance to score.

In the top of the sixth, thanks to some aggressive base running, Bayside added on to their lead to make it 2-0 headed into the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh Lexi Thomas led off at the plate for the Lady Brahman and reached first on a absolutely perfect bunt. Lauren Sills came up to bat and on the first pitch Thomas attempted to steal second base. The ensuing throw from the Bayside catcher was on time, but the catch was dropped at second base.

On the next pitch Sills singled on a softly hit grounder that came up just short of the pitchers mound. Lexi rounded third base ans scored to make in 2-1 and bring the Lady Brahmans within one.

Despite the late rally, the Lady Bears defense was able to lock things down for the rest of the inning and secure he win to advance to the regional semifinal.
