OHS softball rallies to beat Centennial

OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman varsity softball team rallied from being down 4-0 in the first inning to come back and defeat the Centennial Lady Eagles 8-4 on March 10.

The win brings Okeechobee to .500 on the season with a 3-3 record.

Things looked dire in the top of the first inning when a series of walks by OHS pitcher Robbie Talley and two doubles by Centennial helped the Lady Eagles put four runs on the board before the first Lady Brahman had even stepped up to the plate.

But Talley managed to limit the damage to that first inning, didn’t panic, and shutout Centennial for the rest of the game.

The Lady Brahmans crawled out of that early deficit slowly at first, and then all at once in the bottom of the fourth. Talley got things started with a two-out RBI single in the second inning to bring home Jaclyn Pearce. In the third inning Faith Vest hit a two-out double that scored Lauren Sills to bring the score to 4-2.

The bottom of the fourth Okeechobee’s offense hit the ground running when Elle Thomas blasted a lead off double with a line drive to deep center field. Next Pearce drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Madison Hargraves delivered the hit of the game with an absolute bomb to right field that brought home Thomas and Pearce to tie the game and put her on third base.

That triple tied the game 4-4, but the Lady Brahmans weren’t done yet.

Immediately after that Hargraves blast to right field Talley stepped up to the plate and smashed a double to right field that scored Madison and put Okeechobee on top for the first time all night. Angel Collier and Lexi Thomas hit doubles in the inning, with Lexi bringing home a runner and Lauren Sills scoring an RBI on ground ball.

After the bottom of the fourth inning Okeechobee was up 7-4.

The Lady Brahmans now head into spring break on a win. They;ll be back on the field on March 23 when they host Port St. Lucie at 6 p.m.
