Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center to host barrell racing and more

OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee County Agri-Civic Center will host the events listed below in September. The entrance is located at 4601 State Road 710.

Fast and Furious Barrel Race will take place on Friday, Sept. 2 and Saturday, Sept 3. Friday: Exhibition runs start at 5 p.m., Open runs start at 7 p.m. Saturday: Exhibition runs start at 9 a.m, Pee-wee runs start at noon, and Open runs start at 1 p.m. There is no charge for the public to attend, and a concession stand will be open.

Recreational Riding Night will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Recreational riding nights are an opportunity for local residents to ride their horse in the covered arena from 6 to 9 p.m. The fee is $10 per rider, and you MUST have a current Coggins certificate.

Sunshine State Drill Team Competition will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11. Mounted Drill Teams from all over Florida compete. Come out and watch these teams as they perform intricate patterns on horseback. The competition will last all day, and there is no charge for the public to attend. Food trucks and other vendors will be on site both days.

Reining, Reined Cow Horse, & Cutting Horse Clinic will take place on Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18. Participants will take part in two days of training with million dollar winning trainer Bob Avila (Av-i-luh). A full day of learning the basics of the Reining Horse competition on Saturday, Cutting Horse clinic will be Sunday morning, finishing with Reined Cow Horse work on Sunday afternoon.

Treasure Coast Food Bank will visit on Friday, Sept. 23, from 9 to 11 a.m. The entrance is at 4601 State Road 710 gate only.

Tour of Champions Barrel Race will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25. Barrel racers from all over Florida will compete in one of the largest barrel races held in the state. This is the last of six competitions in the tour, each one held in a different location. There is no charge for the public to attend, and a concession stand will be open.
