OKEECHOBEE -- At their Feb. 11 meeting, the Okeechobee County Commissioners approved a request for a change in zoning for a 4.3 property, 2790 State Road 70 West, from residential single-family (RSF) to heavy commercial (c-2). The planning board, following a public hearing on Dec. 8, had recommended the change.
The property is owned by Charles and Sarah Hale. They requested the zoning change to store heavy equipment on site.
Commissioner David Hazellief said while the business is needed, it is important to make the entrance to the county aesthetically pleasing. He asked Planning Director Bill Royce to keep the commissioners updated on the plans for that property.
In other business, the county agreed to partner with Okeechobee Utility Authority for the Oak Lake subdivision stormwater and wastewater projects.
OUA will be the lead agency.
OUA Executive Director John Hayford said work should start in about 30 days and most of the work should be done by the start of August.
