Okeechobee County Commission meets April 29

Posted

OKEECHOBEE – The Okeechobee County Board of Commissioners will meet Thursday, April 29, at 9 a.m. in the Historic Okeechobee County Courthouse, 304 N.W. Second Street.

Items on the agenda include:
• Commissioners will receive a quarterly report from Bert Culbreth of the Okeechobee County Economic Development Corporation; and approve a request for funding in the amount of $250,000. This amount is appropriated in the FY20/21 Budget. The Economic Development Corporation indicates the focus would be to bring both city and county industrial parks up to certification standards, as currently both parks are not complete with shovel ready parcels. They would also like to pursue the process of acquiring additional industrial properties on behalf of the county (such as the old Boys School property). EDC is currently working on the Entryway Enhancement Project with the county as well, so some funds could also go towards phase 1 and 2 of this project to further enhance the industrial park.

• Commissioners will receive a status update from John Hayford, Executive Director from Okeechobee Utility Authority on the sewer expansion projects on the southwest septic/sewer connections; the Okee-Tantie pipeline; and all connections down to the Okee-Tantie area.

• Commissioners will receive an update on COVID-19 from the Public Safety Director and County Health Department representative as it relates to various scenarios and how it may impact the public, employees, and its operations.

• Commissioners will consider executing the grant agreement between Okeechobee County and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Coronavirus Response Grant Program (ACRGP) in the amount of $23,000.

• Commissioners receive a presentation of the fiscal year ending September 30, 2020 audited financial statements as submitted by Julie Fowler of Clifton Larson Allen LLP.

• Commissioners will be asked to approve and authorize the chairman to execute the Memorandum of Understanding between Okeechobee County and the State of Florida for participation in the Florida Plan for potential opioid settlement funds.
