Okeechobee County Commission to consider zoning changes

Posted

OKEECHOBEE -- Zoning changes are on the agenda for the July 8 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commissioners.

Basin Bobby Enterprises is seeking a zoning change from Agriculture to Neighborhood Commercial for a 1165 State Road 78 West property. The property is 6.1 acres on the north side of State Road 78 West,  about 1,000 feet east of SW 16th Avenue. The property is zoned Agriculture and is developed with a manufactured home. The applicant owns the 11.7 acres adjoining to the west. That property was rezoned to Neighborhood Commercial-2  several years ago to accommodate a proposed fishing/boating related business. The applicant is requesting a change in zoning for the subject property to Neighborhood Commercial-2, and in a related petition was granted a special exception by the Board of Adjustments and Appeals to accommodate an expansion of the adjoining business and add the storage of recreational vehicles.

Antonio Valencia and Ana Flores are seeking a zoning change from Heavy Commercial to Residential Single Family for  a property on N.W. 35th Drive. The subject property consists of three lots in Basswood subdivision. The applicants own six total lots, three are on US Highway 98 and the other three back up to those lots but are accessed from NW 35th Drive, about a half mile south of NW 36th Street. The requested change in zoning is for the three lots on NW 35th Drive. Approximately two years ago the previous owners rezoned the six lots to Heavy Commercial. Each of the three lots is currently vacant. The total area of the three lots is about .77 of an acre.

In other business at their July 8 meeting:

• Commissioners will consider the appointment of Margaret Helton to the Tourist Development Board.

•  Commissioners will present service awards to qualifying employees for the quarters ending April 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021.

The meeting, which will be held in the Historic Okeechobee County Courthouse, 304 N.W. Second Street, will start at 9 a.m. and can be viewed live online at https://www.co.okeechobee.fl.us/
