Okeechobee County commissioners to hear update on COVID-19 vaccinations

OKEECHOBEE — An update on COVID-19 vaccinations, a presentation on the proposed expansion of the Okeechobee County Jail and a proposal for grant funding for projects at Kiwanis Park are on the agenda for the Jan. 14 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission.

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, at 9 a.m. in the Historic Okeechobee County Courthouse, 304 N.W. Second Street. The meeting will be live online at https://www.co.okeechobee.fl.us/.

Also on the agenda is approval of a settlement agreement in the case between the county and MAP Universal LLC and Urania Holdings LLC. The settlement agreement provides for the termination of all leases between MAP Universal LLC and Okeechobee, MAP Universal’s surrender of possession of properties to the county, including but not limited to the fuel farm and the county’s payment of $1,310,000 to MAP Universal LLC.

The commissioners will also discuss a voluntary employee demotion policy, the contract for ambulance services and the list of roadways submitted for resurfacing.

All Okeechobee County offices will be closed Friday, Jan. 15 from noon to 5 p.m. for Employee Appreciation Day

All Okeechobee County offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

County offices will re-open Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021 at 8 a.m.

The Okeechobee County Fire Department is not affected by this closure and will continue to provide services.
