Okeechobee County Commissioners to meet Jan. 28

OKEECHOBEE – The Okeechobee County Commissioners will hear an update on COVID-19 cases and vaccinations at their Jan. 28 meeting, in the Historic Okeechobee County Courthouse, 304 N.W. Second Street. The meeting will start at 9 a.m.

Also on the agenda:
• The Okeechobee Historical Society will ask commissioners to extend the time period to expend count funds. The current grant agreement balance is $12,393.21.

• New St. Stephen A.M.E. Church will request the use of the Douglas Brown Community Center on the third Saturday of each month between the hours of 6 and 10:30 a.m. to host a community breakfast with a focus on feeding the homeless.
• Commissioners will consider the list provided by the Florida Association of County Managers Recruitment Committee, establish interview dates and determine the process for interviews.
• Commissioners will be asked to designate the month of January as Radon Action Month in Okeechobee.
• Commissioners will review and consider approval and acceptance of enhancement items at Kiwanis Park from the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class.
• Commissioners will receive a presentation from Avcon Inc. Senior Airport Planner Mary Soderstrum on the Okeechobee County Airport Master Plan.
• Commissioners will receive a presentation from Public Safety Director/Fire Chief Ralph Franklin regarding the plan for providing fire protection service to the City of Okeechobee.
