Okeechobee County Emergency Management Officials are responding to community needs resulting from Hurricane Ian. The Emergency Operations Center is currently at Activation Level 2: Partial Activation, transitioning to Recovery.

Power is being restored throughout the county as crews from FPL and Glades Electric Cooperative continue to assess the system and complete restoration efforts. As of 9 a.m. Friday, 1,986,741 customers in Florida were without power, according to poweroutages.us.

In Okeechobee County, 5,360 Florida Power & Light (FPL) customers have outages. and Glades Electric has 2,099  outages.

• ALL county and city parks are CLOSED to the public. Safety assessments and debris removal are still being conducted to all facilities including playgrounds.

• The Okeechobee County Airport is open.

All other county buildingsare open with normal business hourss.

 • Okeechobee 19th Circuit Courthouse reopened on Friday.

• Okeechobee City Hall reopened on Friday.

• Indian River State College reopened on Friday.

• Okeechobee County Schools  are closed.

• Waste Management collections will begin on Friday through Saturday until caught up. Bulk yard waste collection will resume next week. Residents can take their own waste to the landfill at no charge until normal operations resume.

• Okeechobee County is asking residents to send in photos of damage in their property (home or business) by going to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/OkeeDamage.

• The Information Call Line will be open at the Okeechobee County Library from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. by calling 863-763-3536.
