Okeechobee County Road Watch for the week beginning Sept. 5

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY — The following column is the Road Watch report for Okeechobee County for the week beginning Sunday, Sept. 5, provided by the Florida Department of Transportation.

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

• US 441 at Second Street (Utility permit project): Crews are working in the manholes between southeast Second Street and southwest Park Street. Watch for a nighttime right lane closure and workers in the roadway.

US 441 from NE Fifth Street to NE Ninth Street (Construction project): Crews will mill and resurface US 441 from NE Fifth Street to NE Ninth Street for a railroad crossing reconstruction. Additional work includes curb and gutter, drainage improvements, guardrail, sidewalks, signing and pavement markings and signalization. Estimated completion is fall 2022. The contractor is C.W. Roberts Contracting, Inc.

• South Parrot Avenue (US 98) from to SW Fourth Street to NW Park Street and NW Park Street to Seventh Avenue (Special use permit): The City of Okeechobee will be hosing the Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. South Parrot Avenue from to SW Fourth Street to NW Park Street and NW Park Street to Seventh Avenue will be closed during this time. Please allow extra travel time and follow detours.
