Okeechobee County Road Watch report for the week beginning Sunday, Oct. 10

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY — The following column is the Road Watch report for Okeechobee County for the week beginning Sunday, Oct. 10, provided by the Florida Department of Transportation.

As a reminder, travelers can visit www.FL511.com or dial “511” from their phone to learn about traffic conditions on major roadways across the state.

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

• US 441 at 2nd Street: (Utility permit project) Crews are working in the manholes between southeast 2nd Street and southwest Park Street. Watch for a nighttime right lane closure and workers in the roadway.

• US 98 from SE 36 Avenue to SE 38 Avenue: (Construction project) Crews will be making improvements to US 98 from SE 36 Avenue to SE 38 Avenue. Improvements include resurfacing US 98 from SE 36 Avenue to SE 38 Avenue, installing signage and pavement markers, improving the drainage, and sidewalk construction. Motorists should expect daytime and nighttime lane closures on US 98 during construction.

○ Motorists should expect the possibility of intermittent eastbound and westbound lane closures on US 98 during construction.

Estimated completion is late 2021. The contractor is Johnson-Davis, Inc.

• SR 78 east of SW 16th Avenue: (Driveway permit project) Crews are constructing a driveway with a right and left turn lane starting mid-October into November. Expect lane closures with a possible one lane flagging operation. Watch for workers close to and in the roadway.
