• Okeechobee City Fire Department responded to 28 medical/EMS, six fire related, two motor vehicle accidents and one false alarm between Jan. 4 and Jan. 10.
• Okeechobee County Fire Rescue responded to 139 medical/EMS, 10 fire related, two power line down, three aircraft standby, nine motor vehicle accidents, seven dispatch and cancel and nine miscellaneous calls last week. Of 114 possible transports, eight were refused.
• OCFR and OCFD responded to a call regarding a building fire on Jan. 7 at approximately 7:45 p.m. In the 3700 block of Southeast 19th Terrace. When they arrived, they observed light smoke coming from the structure. City crew found light smoke in the crawl space. The source of the fire was found on the Delta side of the building and skirting was pulled so they could obtain access. One team member crawled into the space to extinguish the fire and then a second team member took his place to do overhaul once the fire was extinguished. The fire was determined to be electrical in nature and caused by a water heater pipe failure.
• OCFR responded to a call regarding a building fire on Jan. 11 at approximately 1 a.m. in the 3600 block of Northwest Fourth Avenue. When they arrived, they found light smoke but no flames. They confirmed the power was off and everyone was out of the building. They made entry into the building, found fire and extinguished it. The origin of the fire was determined to be electrical and accidental.
