Okeechobee Fire Report

• Okeechobee City Fire Department responded to 22 medical/EMS, two fire related, five motor vehicle accidents, two public assist and four canceled calls between Feb. 22 and Feb. 28.

• Okeechobee County Fire Rescue responded to 123 medical/EMS, nine fire related, eight motor vehicle accidents, one aircraft standby, one public assist, four canceled and three miscellaneous calls last week. Of 97 possible transports, nine were refused.

• On Feb. 27, OCFR responded to a call regarding a rubbish fire in the 4000 block of Northwest Eighth Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found a small pile of trash and furniture burning. No one was near the fire. The fire was extinguished with no damage to property.

• On Feb. 27 at approximately 8:30 p.m., OCFR responded to a call regarding a possible structure fire in the 3400 block of Northwest 22nd Avenue. While en route, they were told the fire was actually a grass fire between two homes. When they arrived, the fire was quickly extinguished with no property damage.

• On March 1 at approximately 3:45 p.m., OCFR responded to a call regarding a grass fire in the 10000 block of Northwest 240th Street. When they arrived, they found an area approximately 20’x20’ that had been burned in a roadside ditch. The fire was already extinguished when they arrived.

• On March 1 at approximately 8:15 p.m., OCFR responded to a call regarding a trash or rubbish fore in the 5000 block of Northeast 168th Street. When they arrived, they found nothing amiss and began investigating. When speaking to the staff, they were informed inmates had started a fire, but it was extinguished by sprinklers with no damage to the building.
