Okeechobee Fire Report

Okeechobee County Fire Rescue spent the majority of their time dealing with the emergency medical side of things last week attending to 112 medical related calls. Of the 112 calls, 85 individuals were transported to the hospital via EMS; 25 were not transported, and two were transported by other means.

In addition to the EMS calls, the firefighters were called upon to help with one gas leak, one prank call, seven auto accidents, five public service calls, two alarm system calls, five dispatch then cancel, three aircraft standby and three fires — two rubbish and one building.

  • On Aug. 10, just before 1 a.m., OCFR responded to a call regarding a building fire on Northeast 17th All occupants were able to get safely out of the house before firefighters arrived. When they arrived, they found no flames but light smoke outside the home. The occupants told them the fire started in a bedroom and a burned spot was found on the wall and on a dresser which had been against the wall. One of the occupants was transported to the hospital after noting shortness of breath.
  • On Aug. 11 at approximately 3:30 p.m., OCFR was dispatched to the 200 block of Southwest 72nd Terrace regarding an outside rubbish fire. The homeowner told firefighters he had been burning yard debris when the fire got away from him. Approximately an acre of the backyard was on fire. DOF arrived on the scene and after the fire was extinguished, OCFR was released.
