Okeechobee County Fire Rescue responded to 330 calls between Feb. 27 and March 12, 2023. Of those calls, 225 were medical emergencies; 29 were motor vehicle accidents; 19 were smoke or fire related, and the remainder were miscellaneous calls. Of the 263 possible medical transports, 191 were transported by OCFR.
Below are a few of the highlights:
- On Feb. 27, OCFR responded to a property on Northwest 95th Street at approximately 6:30 p.m. regarding a building fire. While en route, they were notified that the owner took care of the fire. When they arrived, they found light smoke coming from the roof vents of a single-family home. All occupants were out of the home. The fire was determined to be an accidental cooking fire.
- On March 12, OCFR responded to a property on Northwest 258th Street at approximately 3 p.m. regarding a brush fire. The person who called 911 told the dispatcher there were several large piles of garbage on fire. The Division of Forestry was requested on the scene as well.
