OKEECHOBEE -- Okeechobee County is under a red flag alert for dangerous fire weather conditions. The alert extends until 8 p.m.

Just released by the National Weather Service Office Melbourne.

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR
LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY, BREEZY AND GUSTY SOUTHEAST WINDS, HIGH
DISPERSION, AND DRY GROUND CONDITIONS ACROSS INTERIOR EAST CENTRAL
FLORIDA...
The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Red Flag
Warning, which is in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening.
* AFFECTED AREA... Orange... Seminole... Osceola... Okeechobee.
* WIND...Southeast winds 15 to 20 mph with frequent higher gusts.
* HUMIDITY...30 to 35 percent.
* IMPACTS...any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
