OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee County Library kicked of their 2021 summer reading program on June 1. Throughout June and July the library will host an 8 week program that will run until July 24.

This theme this year will “Tails and Tales”, focusing around fairy tales and animals. From June 1-5 the theme was jungle week. Throughout the week the library posted different videos featuring jungle themed crafts and projects for kids to try at home, such as a vegetable insect recipe made of grapes, peanut butter and celery as well as instructions on how to make your own crawling caterpillar.

From June 8-12 the library will be celebrating dinosaur week featuring tutorials for a “dinosaur breakfast” recipe and a “frozen dinosaur excavation” science project. June 15-19 will be ocean week, 22-26 fairy tale week and June 29-July 3 will be forest week.
July 6-10 will be imaginary creatures week, 13-17 farm week, and the program end with safari week from July 20-24.

You’re also able to enter the library’s reading raffle for a chance to win one of five tote bags full of prizes. There is one entry into the raffle for every check out at the library in June and July and another entry for every book read. The tote bags are themed to a specific animal in honor of the Tails and Tales summer program.

The Okeechobee County Library is also looking for volunteers to help with the fun crafts, programs, and library duties this summer. Voluteer shifts run Tuesday through Friday from 3 p.m.- 5 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
