Okeechobee woman killed in St. Lucie County accident

ST. LUCIE COUNTY -- A 51-year-old Okeechobee woman was killed on Oct. 29, after she was struck by a vehicle on US-1.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, a sedan diven by a 22-year-old Stuart woman was was traveling northbound on US-1 (N Federal Highway) in the inside through lane approaching Euclid Street at 9:18 p.m. A pedestrian was walking eastbound crossing the northbound inside through lane of US-1.

The front right portion of the sedan struck the pedestrian in the inside travel lane. The sedan came to final rest on the inside grassy median. The pedestrian came to final rest in the northbound outside through lane of US-1. The pedestrian died.

The sedan came to rest in the northbound outside through lane of US-1. The driver of the sedan was not injured.

The FHP report noted "the roadway was dark as there was no artificial lighting illuminating the roadway."
