OMS out of lockdown

OKEECHOBEE  -- Osceola Middle School went into lockdown Friday morning (Jan. 27) after reports that a student had a firearm in their possession.

According to Cpl. Jack Nash of the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office,  school resource deputies and staff identified the student and immediately detained and searched them.

"A weapon was NOT found in the student's possession," Nash explained. "However, the student is still detained, and the investigation is continuing.

"The school is out of lockdown and back to regular sessions; Again, we stress that a weapon was NOT found, and although still under investigation, no students or staff are in danger.

"Information will be released as it develops. A thank you goes out to the students, staff, and deputies for a superb response."
