Orlando man held on $500,000 bond on aggravated assault charge

OKEECHOBEE — An Orlando man was jailed on a $500,000 bond  following an incident outside an Okeechobee restaurant.

According to the Okeechobee City Police Department (OPD) report, Deveon Scott Jones, 24, of Orlando, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon  and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

According to the OPD report, two officers responded to a complaint around 11:35 p.m. on Oct. 19. A witness pointed to Jones and said, "he stabbed someone." Jones then pulled out a pocket knife. and flipped the blade, extending the blade of the knife outward. The officers gave Jones verbal commands to put the knife down.

Jones walked toward the officers with the knife still visible, the report continues. An officer deployed a taser, making contact with Jones' torso and causing him to drop the knife and fall to the ground.

The stabbing victim was airlifted to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.

A witness told officers Jones had caused a disturbance inside the restaurant. The victim had offered him a ride home, and Jones and the victim went outside. 

Another witness told officers that outside the restaurant he saw Jones swing the knife and strike the victim's side.
